⭐ Savory Christmas Star Bread
A beautifully soft, buttery, and festive savory star bread filled with herbs and cheese. Perfect for sharing during the holidays.
Ingredients
For the Dough
• 350 g bread flour
• 1 tablespoon instant dry yeast
• 2 teaspoons sugar
• 1 teaspoon salt
• 250 ml warm milk
• 2½ tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil
For the Filling
• 1 cup ricotta cheese
• ½ cup grated mozzarella cheese
• ¼ cup grated parmesan cheese
• 2 cups chopped parsley
• 1 teaspoon dried garlic
• Salt, to taste
• Pepper, to taste
For Brushing & Topping
• Softened butter, as needed
• Sesame seeds, for topping
Method
1. In a bowl, add bread flour, instant yeast, and sugar. Whisk well.
2. Add salt, mix again, and keep aside.
3. In another bowl, mix warm milk and olive oil.
4. Add the dry ingredients to a stand mixer bowl. Pour in the milk–oil mixture and knead until a smooth, soft dough forms.
5. Cover and let the dough proof for 1½ hours or until doubled in size.
6. Degas the dough and transfer it to a lightly floured surface. Divide into 4 equal portions and shape each into a ball.
7. Roll each ball into an 8–9 inch round disc.
Prepare the Filling
8. In a bowl, mix ricotta, mozzarella, parmesan, parsley, dried garlic, salt, and pepper. Keep aside.
Assembling the Star Bread
9. Place one rolled dough on the surface and brush evenly with softened butter.
10. Spread a layer of filling gently on top.
11. Place the second dough over it and repeat butter and filling.
12. Repeat this for the third layer.
13. Place the fourth dough on top without adding butter or filling.
14. Place a small glass in the center and gently mark 8 indents. Remove the glass.
15. Cut the dough into 16 equal strips, keeping the center intact.
16. Take two adjacent strips, twist them in opposite directions, and pinch the ends together. Repeat all around to form a star.
Baking
17. Brush the shaped bread with softened butter and sprinkle sesame seeds.
18. Rest for 10 minutes while preheating the oven to 350°F (180°C).
19. Bake at 350°F for 20 minutes.
20. Broil on high for 2 minutes for a golden top.
21. Remove from oven and brush generously with butter.
Serving
Pull apart and enjoy warm. Soft, fluffy layers with a rich savory filling — perfect for festive sharing.
