Reloading disclaimer: Reloading is potentially dangerous, follow published load data from reputable manufacturers, start at or below published starting loads and work up in small increments while watching for pressure signs, use proper reloading equipment and eye protection, keep live ammunition and components away from children and unauthorized users, if you are unsure about any step consult an experienced reloader or a qualified gunsmith. Do not assume that the loads seen here will be safe in your rifle.
In this episode of Dirt Nap Ballistics, we hit the range to run a ladder test for the 7PRC.
The goal was simple, start collecting velocity data, check for pressure signs, and see where the rifle wants to shoot. I shot the test at 100 yards, measuring speeds with the Athlon Rangecraft chronograph.
The setup wasn’t perfect, the grass at the ranch made it tough to get a true prone position, but we still managed to record data and shoot at least one solid group.
During the test, I ran into an unexpected issue with seating depth. I initially thought I had found the jam point and backed off ten thousandths, but a few rounds still felt like they were seating into the lands. After the test, I rechecked and confirmed the lands measurement was slightly different, so I'll adjusted accordingly for the next phase.
Up next: refining the seating depth test and seeing how those new rounds perform.
