I waited for the intake temp sitting around 30 degrees before I turn on the fan, this should replicate “sitting in traffic”. With these temps you want the warm air as quick as you can which means you want to push hot air out of the engine bay while when you are driving you want cold air coming in to the engine bay.
In this test I’m going to drive slow (town) with fan on while pushing in and pulling in.
IAT Temp 30+ deg
IAT Temp (Standing Still, Push warm air out 5 Min; start = 30deg , end is 35deg)
IAT Temp (Standing Still, Pull cold air in, 5 Min; start = 35deg, end is 36deg )
IAT Temp (Driving, Pull cold air in, start is 35deg, min was 22deg and average around 26deg)
IAT Temp (Driving, Push warm air out of the engine bay; start = 36deg , end is 31-34deg)
Results: Pulling air out with this 80 watt fan made no difference no matter if I’m driving or standing still, while standing still with fan on pulling warm air out the engine bay temps actually went up instead of down.
Pushing cold air in made it more stable, temp went up 1 degree in 5 min of idle,
Which makes me think if this is correct or not? We we need air coming in instead out?
