Located in Oita Prefecture, Kitsuki is a rare hidden gem where the atmosphere of the Edo period is still alive. The town is uniquely shaped like a "sandwich," with samurai districts on both the north and south hills, and a historic merchant street running in between. You can walk the same stone-paved slopes once used by samurai, explore authentic samurai residences like the Ichimatsu and Sano Houses, and even visit the old domain school, Shūrakukan. Kitsuki offers a quiet, authentic experience far from the crowds of popular tourist cities.
● How to Get to Kitsuki
Kitsuki is located in Oita Prefecture, Kyushu.
From Beppu or Oita City, you can reach Kitsuki Station by train in about 30–40 minutes.
From the station, it's a short taxi or bus ride to the samurai town area.
By Air:The nearest airport is Oita Airport.
– From the airport, it's about 20 minutes by taxi to Kitsuki.
– Some hotels offer shuttle buses (check in advance)
