If the universe is teeming with aliens, where are they all?" It is said that the Italian physicist Enrico Fermi asked himself this question in the context of a conversation on the evaluation of the probability of coming into contact with intelligent extraterrestrial life forms. Apparently you can only give an answer by working your imagination and setting out to make excellent science fiction. But in the course of the video we will see that this question is not so far-fetched: there was someone who tried to give a quantitative answer instead, strenuously trying to stay within the context of pure scientific speculation. He did it by elaborating an equation that, once solved, would allow us to have a reliable estimate of how many other civilizations share with us this strange condominium that could be our galaxy. This someone is astronomer Frank Drake, one of the pioneers in the radio search for extraterrestrial intelligence. He devised a famous formula, known as the Drake equation, which should help us estimate the number of technological civilizations potentially existing in our galaxy.
