Farming in Emu Plains, Texas, poses many challenges for Greg Finlay who has waged a private battle to improve the productivity of his silty or sandy clay loams.
After seven years of going down the resilience path with changes to irrigation, fertiliser, cover cropping and applying zero till, he is now reaping the rewards.
The soils are capturing more moisture and he has a rotation of peanuts, lucerne hay, cotton, rye grasses and corn. DPI officers from the Farm Business Resilience Program helped Greg with soil testing, soil pit days, information, education and making connections.
