He wasn’t just a revered general - he was one of the few men to ever wield real influence over Hitler himself. By 1944, as the commander of the entirety of France’s Northern defences, Rommel was a significant threat to the Allies. If he could be assassinated, or better yet captured alive, it could change the course of the entire war.
