GIFT OF PROPHECY 6: DISCERNING TRUE PROPHECY AND FALSE SPIRITS is a deep and prophetic teaching by Dr. Arome Osayi, unveiling the biblical systems for judging prophecy, identifying false spirits, and operating safely in the supernatural. This message is a continuation of the prophetic teaching series and focuses on how believers can accurately discern the source of spiritual utterances.
The teaching begins with an examination of Acts 1:1–3, where Jesus, after His resurrection, demonstrated infallible proofs to show that He is alive. Dr. Osayi explains that Jesus still provides these proofs today, and one of the clearest evidences of His living presence in a congregation is the true gift of prophecy.
From there, Dr. Osayi takes us into 1 Corinthians 14, revealing why prophecy is superior to tongues in the context of edification. Prophecy reveals the mind of Jesus, convicts the unbeliever, edifies the church, and becomes a sign that “God is truly among us.”
However, because spiritual utterances can come from different sources, he teaches that the church must learn to judge prophecy, using three major tests:
1. Alignment With Scripture
A prophetic word must agree with the already revealed Word of God. Any prophecy that contradicts Scripture is false — no matter who speaks it.
2. Confirmation, Not Direction
Prophecy is not meant to direct people but to confirm what God has already spoken in their own spirit. Dr. Osayi warns against prophets who attempt to lead people using their personal spiritual experiences. God leads His people through their own spirit, not another person’s.
3. Identifying the Spirit Behind the Utterance
Not every accurate-sounding word comes from God. Using the example of the girl with a spirit of divination in Acts 16, Dr. Osayi shows that demonic spirits can utter things that are true but not truth.
The difference?
Truth is the voice of the Spirit, while true things can come from familiar or lying spirits.
This message also compares the lying spirit in 1 Kings 22 to the spirit of divination in Acts 16, exposing how false spirits imitate prophecy. Dr. Osayi teaches that true prophets often see the visual environment of heaven — the kingdom scenario behind the prophetic message — something soothsayers and false prophets cannot access.
Key Insights You Will Learn:
• How Jesus uses prophecy to reveal that He is alive
• The difference between true prophecy and soothsaying
• Why some prophetic words are accurate but demonic
• How to test utterances using Scripture, inner witness, and spiritual discernment
• Why the anointing within is the believer’s safeguard
• The role of heavenly visions in authentic prophetic ministry
• The danger of familiar spirits and prophetic manipulation
• Why the prophetic office requires courage, purity, and a life surrendered to God
The message concludes with strong prophetic encounters — visions, deliverance, impartation for discernment, angelic encounters, and prophetic songs released in the spirit. Several individuals receive prophetic words exposing demonic attacks, releasing deliverance, activation of spiritual gifts, and fresh encounters.
This sermon is a must-watch for every believer who desires to walk safely in the supernatural and grow in the ministry of prophecy without deception.
