Using the Character panel (under top menu Type) in Adobe Indesign, here is an outline of the steps used in this tutorial to fix rag, widows and rivers in Adobe InDesign:
1. Reduce the type size slightly (0.25 pt increments) which may work depending on the font used and the marketing piece
2. Adjust Character Tracking (reduce) in small increments to correct issue
3. Adjust Character Tracking (increase) in small increments until paragraph lines are even
Definition of the terms used in this video:
River: gaps which appear to run through a paragraph (like a river)
Bad Rag: obvious uneven right edges of type in a paragraph
Widow: a stranded word at the end of a paragraph
Best practice tip: Adjust Tracking until lines are even.
