Dray was also second in the league in defensive rating, defensive win shares, led the league in defensive box plus/minus, and had a higher value over replacement player number than guys John Wall, Mike Conley, and Damian Lillard. His versatility on both ends is incredibly impressive, and his value on the defensive end is truly immeasurable.

The Michigan State Spartan sparks the Dubs on both ends. He is a playmaker, capable of both creating chaos, and creating from chaos. Dray’s true value is that he is UNRELENTING. He’s always going to go at you; whether it’s snuffing out your offensive set because he knows what’s about to happen, or switching and taking out your point of attack, or making momentum changing plays with his intelligence and incredible effort, Green just flat out gets it done. What the Warriors have been able to do the last 3 years, the greatest 3 season run in NBA history (from a wins perspective with 67, a record 73, and another 67, and a pair of rings), would not have been possible without the almost omnipresence of Draymond on defense. He affects the game in so many ways without even having to score. He is Golden State's heartbeat, their soul. Along with Kawhi Leonard, they are easily the two most dominant defenders in the league. Slotted in the center of the Dubs’ death lineup, there is no more fearsome foe. Klay Thompson’s sometimes overstated, but never underrated defensive ability, the head’s up play of Steph Curry (just because you might be the death lineup’s weakest defender doesn’t mean you are a weak defender. If you know anything about basketball, you’ll recognize he is stronger than he looks, and almost never gets beat to spots. Steph is a good, verging on great defender), the devastating defensive duo of the two Finals MVPs, Kevin Durant and Andre Iguodala, all interlock perfectly because of the dynamism of Draymond. There’s no one like him in the league, and it's a testament to how special he is that he's one of five players to have won DPOY and a title in the same year, joining Kevin Garnett, Hakeem Olajuwon, Dennis Rodman, and Michael Cooper.
