Unbelievable Quezon Memorial Circle Transformation | Real Unseen Natures Feel In Quezon City | [4K] 🇵🇭
The Quezon Memorial Circle is a national park and shrine located in Quezon City, Philippines. It serves as a significant landmark and a tribute to Manuel L. Quezon, the second president of the Philippines and the first president of an internationally recognized independent Philippines. The park encompasses approximately 27 hectares and is situated within an elliptical traffic circle bounded by Elliptical Road.
Originally envisioned as the site for the National Capitol of the Philippines, the Quezon Memorial Circle was part of a broader plan to create a National Government Center (NGC) in Quezon City. This plan aimed to consolidate the legislative, executive, and judicial branches of government into one area. Although construction began with the laying of the cornerstone on November 15, 1940, it was halted due to World War II.
After the war, in December 1945, President Sergio Osmeña established the Quezon Memorial Committee to raise funds for a memorial honoring Manuel L. Quezon. A national contest was held in 1951 to design this memorial, which was won by architect Federico Ilustre. His design included not only the monument but also plans for additional structures such as a presidential library and museum.
The shrine itself was completed in stages throughout the late 1970s and has since become a central feature of both historical significance and urban recreation.
The centerpiece of Quezon Memorial Circle is the Quezon Memorial Shrine, which stands at 66 meters (217 feet) tall. The shrine is designed in an art deco style and features three pylons topped with mourning angels holding sampaguita wreaths—symbolizing Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao. Inside, there is an observation deck that provides panoramic views of Quezon City.
The shrine houses Quezon’s remains alongside those of his wife, Aurora Quezon. Additionally, it includes galleries that display memorabilia related to his life and contributions to Philippine history.
Beyond its architectural beauty, Quezon Memorial Circle holds deep cultural significance for Filipinos. It symbolizes national identity and unity while serving as a green space amidst urban development. The park hosts various public events and activities that foster community engagement.
In recent years, enhancements have been made to attract more visitors through beautification efforts led by local government initiatives. The park has also adapted during crises; for instance, during the COVID-19 pandemic, it provided temporary accommodations for health workers.
Looking ahead, Quezon Memorial Circle is set to become even more accessible with planned infrastructure improvements such as the construction of an underground MRT station on Line 7. This development aims to enhance connectivity between different parts of Metro Manila.
In summary, Quezon Memorial Circle is not just a park; it is a vital part of Philippine history that honors its past while serving present-day needs for recreation and community gathering.
