This summer Blakademik Productions were asked by Creative Shift to work on a project with 8 students from UAL called How to Produce an Event?

The idea was that we used our experience in putting on an event to use and help the students put on their own event. From ideation to planning to the day of the event itself, we spent 2 months teaching the students how to do it. Musician Shem of Black Male Beats is a respected artist from south London. He has some amazing artists on his label and a new project to release and the brief for the students was to produce a listening party.

They smashed it. Understanding how to put on a event, to getting the right venue, to working out the production needed to film and record the evening, to promoting the event to working to a budget, they had to learn all of this. Not to do an event in theory, but actually for real.

And in 8 weeks they did it.

The event had performances, but also a panel discussing Black British Music, past, present and future.
