Why I'm Still On My Family Cell Phone Plan

Описание: Today I’m telling you why I’m still on my family cell phone plan at age 26, and why you should be too.

I’ve had a cell phone since the 11th grade and started paying for my portion of our family cell phone plan after I graduated college. I’m still on my family plan to this day and have no plans of leaving for two main reasons.

First, it’s easy to stay on it.

The plan is under my dad’s name, and we have set up an automatic transaction so every month I pay him my portion of the bill and cell phone installment. It would be much more of a hassle to get off the plan and get my own plan than it is just to stay.

Second, I’m saving a TON of money.

My family's plan, AT&T’s $70/Month Prepaid Plan, costs $285/month for 7 lines.

We all get:
Unlimited talk, text, and data
10GB of hotspot use each month.

Our plan also comes with AT&T Watch so I get access to HBO and other specialty channels along with live TV.

For my portion of the family plan, I pay $30/Month. If I were to pay for this plan on my own, it would be $70/month.

But because the cost per line goes down the more you add on family plans, that’s $40 in savings each month and enough money to fund my daily latte habit.

If you want to add in my monthly payment for my iPhone X, that's another $16/Month. But still, $46/month isn’t too shabby at all.

So is there a downside to being on a family plan?? Maybe two.

First, if your name is on the family plan, then you could be stressing about gathering everyone’s payments each month. You could get stuck with a hefty bill to pay on your own if everyone doesn’t stick to their end of the bargain.

-Second, the only other downside are the haters telling me to grow up and get on my own plan. I like to say they're just jealous.

A recent study shows that nearly half of all people under 24 are on their parent’s family plan, and 16% of people ages 25-34 are as well, so I’m not an anomaly. I’m a Millennial looking to save a buck, just like the rest of us.
