Hey,
This is our video of making a coffee table from a live edge Sycamore cookie slab. We inlayed a piece of epoxy art into the slab to mimic a stone geode.
We started by using a router sled to flatten this huge Sycamore cookie. It was tough to work with because the end grain was dense and hard. After flattening the slab, we cleaned up the live edge with a chisel and Bosch orbital sanders. We then did a bunch of sanding on the slab. We bought a piece of art on Etsy that used epoxy replicate a stone geode. We traced the "geode" on the top of the slab, and used a router with a 1/2 inch spiral bit to cut out a space where we could inlay the geode into the surface of the slab. After that it was some more sanding, then finished the table with Osmo Polyx hardwax oil.
We hope you enjoy it!
