When British citizens were massacred in Kanpur in 1857, it marked the start of a series of revolts against the British Empire across the globe which shocked the Victorian belief in their being righteous barers of Christian charity. This shock ushered in a darker and more violent period of history as the use of force and oppression became more pronounced.
This is the 7th part of 'The Victorians: Empire and Race'.
