How Cherokee County School District Teachers Use Minecraft: Education Edition in K-12 Classrooms

Описание: Cherokee County School District introduced Minecraft: Education Edition to K-12 teachers as part of a small pilot in 2017. After completing a round of professional development, the pilot educators shared their learnings with other teachers and offered to help with training and onboarding. Now nearly 100 teachers across the district are using the game-based learning platform in their classrooms from pre-K to high school AP classes, and usage continues to grow as educators engage students in different subjects and learning styles with Minecraft: Education Edition.

Educators in Cherokee Schools have worked to set clear expectations with students and families on how Minecraft is to be used in the classroom as purely an instructional tool. They have designed creative lessons and curriculum, developed their own trainings, and provided invaluable feedback to the Minecraft engineering and support teams leading to global product improvements. The district has also seen Minecraft become an avenue for students to learn soft skills, including communication, teamwork, and compromise. Students are becoming the leaders, with Minecraft helping level the playing field for those students who may not have been as strong academically or had as much confidence before Minecraft was introduced in the classroom.
