LULU GARCIA-NAVARRO,
Keynote Speaker
Lulu Garcia-Navarro is a two-time Peabody Award-winning journalist with years of experience interviewing world leaders, authors, artists and people living on the front lines of a changing world. A longtime international correspondent in the Middle East and Latin America, Lulu was at NPR for 17 years, most recently as the host of “Weekend Edition,” where she reported on everything from Me Too to immigration to the pandemic. Lulu was also a co-host of the NPR podcast “Up First” and the first Latina at the helm of a flagship show at the broadcaster. Lulu came to the New York Times in December 2021 to host “First Person,” a New York Times Opinion show about how people come to their deeply held views. She now talks to famous and influential people for ‘The Interview’ an audio and written franchise at the NYT Magazine. ’ She is also an on-air contributor to CNN. She’s proudly Cuban and Panamanian and very loud at parties.
JEAN-MICHEL SHCHERBAK,
Student Speaker
Jean Michel Shcherbak is a Russian-African journalist who has worked as an editor and producer on various TV projects for over ten years. After Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in 2022, he reported on Russian war crimes and actively countered state propaganda. His videos exposing state media propaganda reached millions. He also launched a platform to support families divided by the war.
Since 2022, Jean Michel has been working as a host and editor for the program Tracks East on the German TV channel ARTE. One of the episodes of this show, Russia – USA: A New Cold War, won the Silver TV & Film Award at the New York Festivals. Jean Michel will graduate with a Master’s in Journalism, focusing on Documentary, and holds a Bachelor’s in Economics from Saint Petersburg State University of Economics.

Alumni Speaker
Nico Grant is a technology correspondent for The New York Times, based in San Francisco. His coverage focuses on Alphabet, one of the world’s largest technology companies, which owns Google, YouTube and various other businesses. He previously spent five years at Bloomberg News, where he reported on the changing software industry. He graduated from the Craig Newmark Graduate School of Journalism in 2016.
