Presented by Centron Educational Films, "Drinking Driver: What Could You Do?" is a 1972, color, anti-drunk driving film. The film presents three scenarios where teenagers are forced to make decisions about drinking and driving, and looks at the consequences of these decisions. The film asks, “What could you do?” The film opens in a radio control room of a police station. A fatal car accident is reported and ambulances race to the scene. Drinking Driver: What could you do? An ambulance or paramedic races down a highway. :50 Cars and trucks drive on the sand down by a lake 1:47. This is a reenactment 2:05. The cooler is opened and beers are distributed 2:35. Two men throw a girl in the lake 3:10. The group gathers around guitarists and they sing by the lake 3:30. Girls sit by a tree and talk about having a designated driver 4:00. The group plays volleyball 4:25. Exercise does not get alcohol out of your system 4:40. Likewise, drinking coffee does not sober you up 5:00. Man suggests eating something while he’s drinking to keep him from getting drunk 5:14. A young man says he was too drunk to drive before but he’s feeling better now. This is a common misjudgment 5:25. The ability to judge one’s own condition is the first thing alcohol depresses 5:35. The gathering by the beach is coming to an end and the group packs up their cars 6:15. Situation 1: John. The cars leave the parking lot 6:45. Three of the group sit on the back of the car in a convertible, a dangerous place to sit especially when the driver has been drinking 7:52. John tries to stop them from leaving 8:05. Situation 2: Amy 8:18. A man stops to pick up Amy and there are two children in the back 9:00. Amy knows the man as “Mr. Johnson”. He seems tipsy and has a bottle of alcohol on the seat next to him as he drives the car 9:27. Mr. Johnson says after he’s had a few sips of the alcohol he’s extra careful on the road. Mr. Johnson runs a red light 10:10. He asks Amy if she would like to get out of the car. Amy is confused. Situation 3: Dan and Linda 10:37. Linda has to decide whether she wants to get in the car with a drunk driver 12:10. Dan can’t help her. The ambulance is seen approaching the accident.
