Disclaimer. Not everyone who is a part of this is guilty of what this video talks about. As of shortly after this video was pretty much finished, things did hash out a bit and simmer down in the community. Things were messy. I was part of a long-ish talk and said a lot of the things I said in this video. I wanted to inject some objective thought instead of a mob-like echo chamber against Leeching and Radiance. I wanted to talk about the actual merits of both sides and of course the downsides and their magnitude.
It's dangerous when a mantra is repeated over and over. If one person has something to say about it, no matter the reasoning, it tends to get thrown out the window, which is why I wanted to make this video to show an example of the main problem with Life Steal.
If anything to raise awareness for people who are choosing what they want. Whether you prefer Leeching or Life Steal, stick with the facts and list the pros and cons of each. You don't wanna misinform so someone will pick what you want them to.
And this isn't exactly a "new superior" build. It's been around. Wither Armor was one of my first armors since I lived in Desert Temple when I first got the game. Life Steal was my OG source of healing. I'm fully aware of how it works and its weaknesses and strengths. I switched to Leeching because it was just better overall.
Or rather, because I expanded my armor usage to beyond just Wither Armor.
Anyway, about the community talk. Things have improved somewhat, but I suspect this isn't fully over. As I said, this member has been doing a lot on their own lately. I cannot fault them on that. But the shade and jabs being thrown at me to subtly undermine how people see me isn't cool. I don't do the same thing or even say anything unless I'm slighted or involved in some way.
Here I definitely was. I was being spread as this bad guy misinforming people that Leeching / Radiance is the only healing and that I was behind people hating Life Steal.
First off, people don't hate Life Steal. It's amazing. I make use of it. All I do is list Leeching and Radiance on appropriate weapons because they're amazing. It in no way discourages people from using Life Steal armor. I have Spider Armor and Wither Armor listed in my guides and speak massively highly of them. I list Leeching and Radiance since they provide the best healing, especially for people who would need a guide, but I've never said my combos are the only thing you can run. Just that they're either the best general or more specialized combos that are friendly for all armor builds.
I also just wanted to talk about this because on top of everything else going on for me, this is added stress or headache that I could do without. All of this that's been going on, the feeling that someone's competing with me and trying to get people to see me in a bad light or diminish what I've contributed. When you see new players praising someone for something that was actually you're doing, and then you see that person talking crap about you on top of that, it's gonna make you feel some ways about it.
If there is/was a competition, it's one-sided because I don't want any competition. I might not appreciate being slighted or having credit taken from my work or contributions that I put a lot of effort into, but I'm not into competing over who's the best. I've always only cared about being the best I could be. I hardly even watch other videos about the game, unless linked to any because someone says it's spreading misinformation, so I check it out to see what info's being spread.
Anyway, #DitchMeleeHeals in itself isn't bad. Using Life Steal over Leeching or Radiance is a legitimate choice that is different enough to warrant that choice based on preference. But it shouldn't be used for anything more than that, nor to spread anything more than that.
Mine is #HealingMethodDoesn'tMatter because I'll never tell you what you have to do. I'll say what the better option is, but I'll always make sure to explain to you why. I don't wanna just give players info for them to blindly follow. I like helping them to UNDERSTAND why they'd wanna choose my recommendation. That way they can decide better for themselves, feel confident in their choice, and have a better understanding how to use those choices in actual combat.
So yeah, Leeching and Life Steal function nearly identical to each other, if on builds made for them. Life Steal ultimately has the potential for more damage, while Leeching is more healing. In the current meta, neither more damage nor more healing are really needed. In many cases, the extra damage will literally make no difference, with enemies dying in the same number of hits.
As always, I just like to provide the facts & info about the choices. I'll give you my conclusion about them, but will always leave it up to you to decide.
Music used are Eyes of Rage from Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn, Abyss Watchers from Dark Souls III, & Rage Awakened from Kingdom Hearts 2.
