Hongshan Park is located in the center of Urumqi and is named after its location on the Red Mountain. The mountain body of Hongshan is composed of purple gravel and is ocher red, hence the name "Red Mountain". There is a brick tower on the top of Hongshan, namely Hongshan Tower. Opposite the brick tower on the Yamalik Mountain opposite, the two are collectively called the "Zhenlong Tower". The brick tower in Hongshan was built in 1788. It is 10.6 meters high and is a solid blue brick tower with six sides and nine floors. The tower is still in good condition today.

Hongshan used to be a barren mountain. Since 1958, the Urumqi Municipal Government has mobilized nearly 400,000 soldiers and civilians to plant trees around Hongshan, cut rocks to replace soil, build canals to divert water, and turned the originally barren Hongshan into a densely wooded area.
