Over 30 years ago, the Midlands town of Nuneaton lost its last two manual signalboxes - Midland Junction & Abbey Junction. Our correspondent was on hand to record events during their last week of operation. The track forming the diversionary route that existed between the two boxes was soon lifted severing the direct conection to and from the Leicester line. A few years later, part of the track was reinstated to provide a direct route into the newly-built platforms 6&7 that are still in use today.
