The importance of pore structure in influencing material properties, such as permeability, durability, and strength.
Different types of pores:
Open pores: connected to the external surface, allowing for fluid flow.
Closed pores: isolated within the material, not contributing to permeability.
Ink-bottle pores: pores with a narrow neck and a wider body, influencing fluid entrapment and transport.
Percolation threshold: the point at which a network of interconnected pores is formed, allowing for fluid flow through the material.
