Internet giant Google is in the process of creating the world's first online library. Those who own the rights to books, whether they be authors or publishers, will have to decide by next January whether to make their work available in an online library for a small fee, or to opt out. Opponents call it a 'land grab' of the world's millions of out-of-print and out-of-copyright books.

Global negotiations are continuing, but we'll find out more next month when the issue is put to a fairness hearing in the US.
