This gesture of support was made after a request from Jibril Rajoub, the head of the Palestinian football federation. The move is subject to approval from the Asian Football Confederation (AFC).
One of the upcoming matches that will be hosted in Algeria is Palestine's 2026 World Cup qualifier against Australia, which is scheduled for November 21. Palestine is in the World Cup Asian preliminary qualifying Group I along with Australia and Lebanon. Additionally, the 2023 Asian Cup, set to begin in January, will feature Palestine facing the UAE, Iran, and Hong Kong in Qatar.
