Yael Tauman Kalai is a cryptographer and theoretical computer scientist who holds an Ellen Swallow Richards Professorship at MIT’s Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory (CSAIL). She previously served as a Senior Principal Researcher at Microsoft Research New England. Kalai earned her B.Sc. in Mathematics from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem in 1997, followed by an M.S. in Computer Science and Applied Mathematics from the Weizmann Institute of Science in 2001, where her thesis was recognized with the outstanding master's thesis prize. She completed her Ph.D. in Computer Science at MIT in 2006, where her thesis was awarded the George M. Sprowls Award for Outstanding PhD Thesis in Computer Science.
Kalai is the recipient of the 2022 ACM Prize in Computing “for breakthroughs in verifiable delegation of computation and fundamental contributions to cryptography.” She became a Fellow of the International Association for Cryptologic Research in 2022.
