For centuries, Africans were told to see Jesus through a white face. But Jesus was never white. He was a Jewish man from the Middle East, born in Bethlehem and raised in Nazareth. The Bible itself places him in Africa as a child ,fleeing to Egypt for safety. Yet colonial Christianity painted him with blue eyes and pale skin, turning him into a symbol of whiteness.
This image was never innocent. It was a weapon. A tool used to dominate, to colonize, and to control. The “White Jesus” narrative was spread alongside the Bible and the gun, conquering not just land, but the African imagination.
