Makiwara Folding the Chest

Описание: Here's a short Makiwara clip. Typically power for the tsuki (punch) is generated from the hip, or gamaku, but in this video it is generated by a folding of the chest - imagine the spine being the center axis and the two halves of the chest coming together so thrusting the shoulders forwards.
Regarding makiwara practice: Most instruction in Makiwara involves a teacher saying something like, "start out slow and gradually increase the speed of your punches." Imagine saying that about any other form of physical discipline; swimming, "start out slow and...", running, "start out slow and..." - you get the picture. It's the fundamentals that have to be focused on first (both for safety, effectiveness, and longevity), in addition to preparing the body with strengthening exercises in order to be able to withstand the demands that a makiwara will ask of us.
