"We believe the development of the third positional region, namely the deployment of silo-based anti-missiles in Poland and tracking radars in the Czech Republic have a clearly expressed anti-Russian potential. We totally disagree with the assessment of the missile threat, as it is being touted by the United States, and regard the threat as totally far-fetched."

STORYLINE:
A top Russian general said on Tuesday that Moscow will take adequate measures to counter US missile defence plans.
Lieutenant General Yevgeny Buzhinsky told a briefing that Russia was thinking about "asymmetrical" steps if the United States deploys missile defence elements in Europe.
He did not give specifics.
However Buzhinsky did say that ""We believe...the deployment of silo-based anti-missiles in Poland and tracking radars in the Czech Republic have a clearly expressed anti-Russian potential. We totally disagree with the assessment of the missile threat, as it is being touted by the United States, and regard the threat as totally far-fetched."
At the same time, Buzhinsky said that the military doesn't plan to beef up the Soviet-era missile defence system that protects Moscow.
Russia has rejected US assurances that the plans were designed to counter a missile threat from Iran.
It says the US missile defence facilities will undermine its security.
Buzhinsky warned on Tuesday that if such facilities went ahead.."we envisage possible retaliatory measures in order to minimise the risk to the security interests of our country."
