Chicago 18 is the first album without original bassist and vocalist Peter Cetera. Cetera decided to leave the band in 1985 because he wanted to record a solo album. Chicago eventually hired Scheff to fill Cetera's position as vocalist and bassist. The band replaced Chris Pinnick with Dawayne Bailey on guitar. Scheff and Bill Champlin, who had joined the band in 1981, are now the most prominent voices in Chicago.
