Today we are making a traditional and delicious Zunka recipe at home with Sampada’s Food Vibes.
Zunka, also known as junka, is a famous Maharashtrian dry curry made with gram flour and spices.
This dish is often enjoyed with bhakri, roti, or rice, making it a perfect comfort food.
In this recipe, we first heat oil in a pan and add mustard seeds, cumin seeds, green chilies, and a pinch of hing.
Next, we add finely chopped onions and sauté them until they turn soft and light golden.
Then we mix in turmeric powder, red chili powder, and salt for that authentic taste.
After that, chopped tomatoes are added and cooked until they turn mushy and flavorful.
To give the zunka its signature texture, we sprinkle a little water and add gram flour (besan).
The besan blends beautifully with onions and tomatoes, creating a soft yet dry curry.
This zunka is cooked for about five minutes until the raw taste of besan goes away.
Finally, we garnish with fresh coriander leaves for a refreshing touch.
Our junka recipe is now ready to serve with hot bhakri or chapati.
