Each Splash Mountain version begins with a peaceful outdoor float-through that leads to indoor dark ride segments, culminating in a climactic steep drop into a "briar patch" followed by an indoor finale.
The attraction is based on the characters, stories, and songs from the 1946 film Song of the South, but without the film's notorious racial controversies. It tells the story of Br'er Rabbit, a mischievous rabbit who leaves his home in the briar patch in search of his "laughing place." Unfortunately for him, the antagonists of this story, Br'er Fox and Br'er Bear, are determined to catch and eat him.
