Cable Companies are upgrading the Hybrid Fiber Coax (HFC) networks to DOCSIS 4.0, leveraging technologies like Distributed Access Architecture (DAA) to improve performance and reliability, and deploying mid-splits and high-splits in their upstream plant to increase the speeds they can offer their subscribers. These changes are much less costly then if they were to upgrade the last mile to fiber, and will keep cable modem service competitive with fiber service for the foreseeable future.
