Join us as we explore Carpenter Canyon, one of Southern Nevada’s most scenic and lesser-known mountain canyons just outside Pahrump, NV. This video covers off-road access, dispersed camping spots, trail conditions, and what to expect when camping at higher elevation in the Spring Mountains.
Carpenter Canyon is a canyon on the western side of the Spring Mountains, partially within the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest, in Clark County, southern Nevada west of the Las Vegas Valley.
Carpenter Canyon is accessible via State Route 160 and Carpenter Canyon Road near Pahrump. Carpenter Canyon Road is a minimally maintained dirt road reaching roughly 10 miles into the mountains and Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest. A clearwater stream, the Carpenter Canyon Creek, runs through Carpenter Canyon the entire year, supporting a small population of trout, which is uncommon in the Spring Mountains and Mojave Desert.
🚙 Carpenter Canyon Off-Road Trail Info
Carpenter Canyon Road is a rough, rocky 4WD trail that climbs from the desert floor near Pahrump up into the Spring Mountains. High-clearance vehicles are strongly recommended, and true 4WD is often required, especially after rain or snow runoff. The trail includes steep grades, loose rock, ruts, and narrow sections with limited turnaround points—perfect for experienced off-roaders looking for a rewarding climb and incredible views.
