This song has been handed down throughout the Ryukyu and Amami Islands as a song sung for "Unarigami-Shinkou," or "the faith of female sister deities," who reigned as spiritual guardians in the ancient Ryukyu Islands. This song allegorically portrays these sister deities in the form of a white heron praying for their brothers’ safe voyage as well as describes plover birds on the beach crying from recalling their mother's face after being reluctantly separated from their parents. Probably because of the beauty of its melody, this is one of the most beloved Shima-uta songs on Amami Oshima.
