Testing out the .380 ACP and .38 Special Hydra-Shok ammunition from Federal. I am using my Ruger LCP 2.75" pistol and my S&W 342PD 1.875" revolver. I am chronographing the rounds and firing them into water jugs with denim on the front and wood planks to see which caliber cartridge is better.
Overall, good performance with the .38 special. As for the .380, not as ideal but still great energy. The takeaway is that this ammo was expensive. About $28 a box of 20 rounds, compared to Hornady ammo which averages $18 a box of 25, you pay a lot for the Hydra-Shok and don't really get the best performance on the intended target, but the shootability is there with it's reduced recoil.
