Therefore, brothers, with them let us strive toward the path of their life and toward their good deeds, and let us continually study the words of books, doing the will of God as they teach us, so that we may be worthy of eternal life.
Learn, O faithful person, to be a doer of piety, and learn to live according to the word of the Gospel: govern your eyes, subdue your body, humble your mind, keep your thoughts pure, destroy anger.
Compel yourself toward good deeds for the Lord’s sake:
when deprived — do not seek revenge;
when hated — love;
when persecuted — endure;
when slandered — pray.
Put to death sins.
Crucify yourself with Christ.
Place all your love upon the Lord, so that you may find tens of thousands of angels, the assemblies of the firstborn, apostolic thrones, patriarchal staffs, martyrs’ crowns, and the praises of the righteous.
Consider yourself poor, and dying tomorrow, and becoming dust.
Say: “I am not worthy, being sinful, even to look upon the faces of people.”
Therefore by always thinking about such things you may be saved in Christ Jesus our Lord, to whom be glory.
Amen.
