This song is sang by John McCormack and written by George M. Cohan. The song was very popular back in the day when it was first made. The song was described in The Music Trades magazine as "the biggest popular song success ever published." It reached number nine on the US Billboard charts in January 1919. The song is about the people back in the USA waiting for their soldiers to return from the frontlines in Europe. Germany is mentioned a couple of times. The song implies for the soldiers to return with a victory over Germany in their pockets, having woven the American flag over 'Old Berlin', and taking 'a little thing from the king'. Not shortly after this song was released to the public in April of 1918, ww1 ended with a American victory back in November of 1918.
