300HP Renault 21 Turbo Europa Cup Race Car in action at Imola Circuit!

Описание: The R21 you see in this video was Renault Sport's race car for their own one-make series, called Europa Cup, from 1989 to 1991 as a replacement of their previous Renault Alpine V6 Turbo Europa Cup car. It's based on the 2.0-litre, 4-cylinder turbocharged version of the street-legal Renault 21 and after a good weight-reduction cure and all the necessary changes to make it a proper race car, here's the result.

The R21 Turbo Europa Cup only weight 1,000 kg and it's able to produce around 300 hp. The J7R engine is linked to a 5-speed manual gearbox delivering the power only on the front wheels. For this reason the car is equipped with 17'', 250mm wide tires on the front and 16'', 210mm on the rear. Watch it in action around Imola Circuit during a couple of 'free practice'/track day sessions of the 2018 and 2019 editions of the Historic Minardi Day.

Even though the R21 Europa Cup looks to have some great numbers, Renault decided to built an even faster and powerful R21 to be fielded in the Superproduction championship. That monster was based on the 4WD version of the road-legal Renault 21 Turbo, called 'Quadra', and it was able to produce around 430HP at 8,000 rpm. It was a very successful car of the series but we'll talk about it in a future video.
