Dr.Robello Samuel is a Halliburton Technology Fellow with more than 36 years of multi-disciplinary experience in domestic and international oil and gas drilling operations. He has taught on the faculty of various universities; for the past 16 years he has held concurrent adjunct professor appointments at the University of Houston and University of Southern California. Dr. Samuel has published more than 200 technical papers, 14 drilling engineering books and 66 US patents. He serves regularly as a keynote speaker at major conferences and corporate forums and is regarded as one of the world’s most influential contributors to advancement of research and practice in drilling engineering. He is a SPE Distinguished Lecturer, SPE Distinguished member, recipient of several awards including SPE Gulf Coast Regional Drilling Engineering award, and SPE international Drilling Engineering award.

It is not just drilling ahead but with data, ML, AI, automation and people converging to autonomics making the physical drilling system in self-configuring, self-diagnosis, self-healing, self-optimizing and self-managing state. Real-time monitoring of torque, drag and standpipe pressure is a first step to understand the health of the well and forward predict the condition of the well by way of using the intelligent broomstick and hockeystick plots. This graphical presentation of provides early warning of poor hole cleaning, wellbore quality, drilling efficiency. The underlying intelligent rigstate identification, intelligent friction factor calibration and intelligent uncertainty analysis and provides diagnostic, predictive and prescriptive solutions as the well is drilled. This provides a methodology to monitor the quality of the well by maintaining a high drilling efficiency.
