New Orleans, located in Louisiana along the Mississippi River, is a city rich in history and culture. It was founded in 1717 by Jean-Baptiste Le Moyne de Bienville, a French explorer and governor of Louisiana. Initially a French colony, New Orleans became the capital of Louisiana in 1722.
