The Guado al Tasso estate is located in the small, but prestigious, Bolgheri DOC on the Maremma coast, approximately 100 kilometers (60 miles) to the southwest of the city of Florence. This appellation, created in 1994, has a relatively brief history, but can boast an international fame as a new reference point from the oenological viewpoint of the world. The Guado al Tasso estate covers an area of about 320 hectares (790 acres) planted with vines set in a beautiful plain encircled by rolling hillsides known as the Bolgheri Amphitheatre due to its particular shape. The vineyards of Guado al Tasso are planted to Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Syrah, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot, and Vermentino. They enjoy a mild climate due to the nearby presence of the Mediterranean; the sea breezes regularly mitigate both summer heat and the rigors of winter, sweep the sky clean, and maintain a high degree of sunshine and solar warmth.
