Resembling a gigantic straight-backed chair sitting atop a mesa, Jacob’s Chair is a prominent 270 foot high geologic tower formed of Wingate sandstone located in the western portion of Bears Ears National Monument. Access is by a gravel turn off of Highway 95 about 17 miles south of Hite’s Crossing Bridge.
The overall trail winds about 28 miles, in a counterclockwise direction, around the red sandstone mesas before joining back up with Highway 95 a little bit north of the original turnoff. While not difficult in a technical sense, the trail does traverse many rocky areas leading in and out of several relatively deep creek beds, including Willow Creek, and would likely take 4-5 hours to complete the entire round trip.
This video provides a short glimpse of what one could expect along this trail as it was nearing the end of a long day exploring and I still had about 60 miles to Blanding, Utah.
I developed this channel to chronicle my adventures in my Jeep Wrangler exploring trails and offroad locations throughout the western united states. I enjoy exploring remote locations which are rarely, if ever visited, always looking for remote locations that I imagine no other human has ever visited. If you are interested in remote trails, historical routes, ghost towns, abandoned mining camps, beautiful desert and mountain scenery, then this is a channel for you.
