Empire at War How to Rig Infantry units in 3dsmax Tutorial

Описание: Hello! This is a tutorial video I have made to show you the basics of rigging a new infantry unit for the Star Wars Empire at War game using 3dsmax 8/9. In this tutorial I cover how to use a pre existing set of animations and skeletons and apply them to your new infantry model.

In this case I used the EAW vanilla Stormtrooper model and animations and applied them to a new rebel trooper model.

Shortened version of the Tutorial in words:
1) you first import the base animation/rig (which in this case was the stormtrooper rig/animation).
2) Next you Import a model you want to apply the skeleton and animations to (in this case a rebel trooper)
3) Switch to wireframe mode, and try to align your new model with the skeleton of the vanilla stormtrooper model
4) apply textures to the new model (so that it will be eaiser to rig and weight it properly) using Rskingloss shader. RskinGloss shader is used if you want a model to have animations (as the meshgloss shaders dont allow bone movement)
5) Click your model and go to the MODIFY tab.
6) In the MODIFIER LIST, add the SKIN modifier to your new model.
7) Under the SKIN modifier, go to ADVANCED PARAMETERS, and scroll down till you find the BONE AFFECT LIMIT. Set BONE AFFECT LIMIT to 1. The reason for this is that Empire At War's Alamo model format only allows each vertice in a model to be affect ONLY by 1 bone.
8) Go to the SKIN modifier and scroll to PARAMETERS. Click on BONES ADD and add the bones to the model.
9) Check which bones affect which vertices of the model. If a bone is affecting a wrong vertice (and looks wrong), you can use either the WEIGHT TABLE or PAINT WEIGHT tool to set the vertices to be affected by the correct bone.
