As Uganda braces for the 2026 elections, fears of state repression are mounting, with reports of abductions, arrests, beatings, and teargassing targeting Bobi Wine’s supporters. Bobi Wine has now issued a stark warning: the government may shut down the internet, clamp down on media outlets, restrict movement, and even abduct or arrest him at home—both during and after the vote.
This, he notes, is a familiar tactic long used by President Museveni against political challengers, including Dr. Kizza Besigye in previous elections.
Addressing a passionate crowd at a political rally in Buikwe, Bobi Wine told supporters that they alone will determine the outcome of the election through their actions, both now and on election day. He called for nonviolent defiance and urged vigilance to prevent manipulation of the vote. To ensure transparency, he instructed every supporter to have a calculator ready to tally votes from every polling station, so the official results cannot be doctored as they have been in the past.
Bobi Wine’s message was clear: the people’s courage and vigilance will decide whether Uganda’s elections are free and fair—or hijacked once again by the state.
