Описание: In this episode of The Caravan Baatcheet, host Vishnu Sharma talks to senior journalist and author Qurban Ali on the Congress party’s Hindu card. Qurban Ali wrote an extensive article in our October issue, explaining how the Congress legitimised the Sangh’s communal politics. During Indira Gandhi’s era, especially after 1977, the Congress deviated from the ideology developed during the Independence movement, and began appeasing Hindu majoritarianism. It was during this time that the Congress openly started playing the Hindu card—Indira revived the Vishva Hindu Parishad, extended support to the Hindu Mahasabha and facilitated a Virat Hindu Sammellan through Karan Singh, to name just a few instances. This trend continued during Rajiv Gandhi’s tenure, who won the 1984 election on a blatant Hindu card, leading up to the opening of the lock of the Babri Masjid.

कारवां बातचीत के इस एपिसोड में वरिष्ठ पत्रकार और लेखक कुर्बान अली के साथ कांग्रेस पार्टी के हिंदू कार्ड पर चर्चा. कुर्बान अली ने कारवां पत्रिका के अक्टूबर अंक पर इस विषय पर एक लंबा लेख लिखा है और बताया है कि कैसे कांग्रेस पार्टी ने देश में हिंदुत्व की राजनीति को प्रत्यक्ष और अप्रत्यक्ष से अपनी राजनीति और नीतियों से बढ़ावा दिया. इंदिरा गांधी के दौर में, खासकर 1977 के बाद से, कांग्रेस ने आजादी के दौर में विकसित अपनी विचारधारा को छोड़ कर हिंदू बहुसंख्यकवाद के तुष्टिकरण कर शुरू हुआ. इसी वक्त में कांग्रेस ने खुल कर हिंदू कार्ड खेलना शुरू कर दिया. इंदिरा ने ही विश्व हिंदू परिषद को रिवाइव किया और हिंदू महासभा को समर्थन देना चालू करती हैं. साथ ही, उन्होंने कर्ण सिंह के जरिए विराट हिंदू समागम करवाया. इसके बाद राजीव गांधी के दौर में यह सिलसिला जारी रहता है जो बाबरी मस्जिद का ताला खुलवाने तक पहुंचता है जहां से हिंदुत्व भारतीय राजनीति के केंद्र में आ जाता है.
