SIG SG550-1SP, the semi-automatic version of the standard Swiss military issue STGW.90. Approximately 450 were imported into the USA back in the late 1980s, and most were the -2 variant with the 1 in 7 NATO twist rate.

SIG SG551-2SP SWAT, a LEO trade-in semi-auto carbine purchased from Mike Otte a couple years ago. Only 45-50 original SG551-2SPs were imported in 1989 right before the ban, and all of those had an extended 16.1" barrel. Mr. Otte had 110 or so of these trade in guns, which he obtained from Louisiana Wildlife Fish & Game. These carbines are 100% legal for civilians to own and Title 1 thanks to a 2" muzzle extension. The SG551-1 is in limited use with the Swiss military under the name of STGW.90K.

SIG551-A1, this is one of the first ones produced by SIG Sauer (USA) and delivered to CDNN back in the summer of 2011. The only Swiss parts on it originally were the stock and magazine. It was cerakoted 'SIG Grey', designed to take Swiss mags, and had a unique
flash hider. Otherwise, it was identical to the SIG556 Classic. The fit and finish isn't quite up to Swiss standards but is still very good.

SG553P, this is one of the current SIG Sauer imports. It has a standard weight 8.9" barrel, with a 1 in 7 twist rate. It is all Swiss and has a SG553 style 3 prong flash hider. It is identical to the SG553-2AL, except for lacking a buttstock and being a semi-auto only.

The 553P is easily converted into an SBR, after of course one obtains the proper stamp from the BATF. Only a few hundred of these have been imported so far. The Swiss Paratroopers use the SG553-1LB under the STGW.04/07 designation.
