2 hours of the additional body cam footage of "Black Panther" director Ryan Coogler being handcuffed and detained by Atlanta Area officers after a not-so-bright teller mistook his note explaining how to do his transaction for a robbery.
Included in this video is interviews with Erica (Erika Glass) The pregnant teller who alerted the authorities with a 911 call on January 7, 2022 which got police involved in a simple transaction.
Also interviewed in the Video is the unnamed FCM (Financial Center Manager) of that Bank of America branch that day.
She was on loan from another center. Atlanta has a lot of closed Bank of America branches in lower-income neighborhoods of ATL, only focusing on the rich areas like Buckhead, where this branch is located...
It is explained through body cam footage, where frankly even the cops are confused, that the whole incident was a mistake and the teller really overreacted to Ryan Coogler's withdrawal.
Also on the video is the detaining of Ryan Coogler's party waiting for him in the car. They are detained and put into the back of a squad car while things are sorted out.
The video does repeat some scenes, but the cameras are from different cops perspectives.
Here's the facts
There are no paper withdrawal forms at BofA, so Coogler was not at fault
Teller had his ID and Debit with PIN. So to BofA, he was fully autheticated for his transaction.
The "High Risk Transaction" message that BofA had on the screen for him was introduced several years ago when I worked there, and was meant to slow down transactions in an effort to dissuade people from taking too much out.
The teller called 911 directly which is against proper escalation protocol. No silent alarm was tripped.
It's not abnormal to write notes to tellers. Though robbers use them, merchants, the hard of hearing and mutes use them too.. It's not weird to me.
It's normal to escort a high profile client to a room to count money, or any person for that matter to count out a large sum to prevent "Jugging" which takes place when crooks spot a large transaction at a bank and follow a person to their home for robbery purposes.
That Ryan Coogler could have easily been injured as a result of the tellers neglect, along with her boss, the assistant manager in charge, who seemed to back up the teller.
The manager, while not at her normal branch could have been more accepting of responsibility during this situation.
All in all, a crazy event. Follow me on Twitter @bankbetterguy, Tiktok @notoriousbanker and subscribe on here for more bad banking stories. This happens ALL THE TIME at Bank of America an most major banks
