In MUDANG(Project TH), enemy AI is not just a scripted obstacle but a highly adaptive and tactical combat force. This Dev Diary explores how AI soldiers operate in open outdoor environments—strategizing, tracking, and engaging players in dynamic encounters. 🎯

Unlike indoor combat, outdoor engagements present unique challenges such as expansive sightlines, dynamic cover usage, and multi-directional threats. Enemy AI actively utilizes buildings, cover, and tactical equipment to secure superior combat positions. Moving in squad formations, they employ bounding overwatch, suppressive fire, and flanking maneuvers to pressure players and push them into disadvantageous situations. 🔥

AI units exchange information in real-time and adjust their strategies dynamically. Upon detecting a player, they don’t mindlessly charge forward—instead, they split into frontline engagement teams and maneuvering teams, cutting off escape routes while maintaining crossfire. If a player breaks the line of sight, AI will systematically search the area, share intel with nearby units, and anticipate potential movement paths. Additionally, AI units actively utilize grenades, deploying fragmentation grenades to inflict direct damage or smoke grenades to obscure vision, restricting player movement. 💣

If a player retreats into a building, the AI doesn’t simply chase them inside. Instead, they deploy CQB (Close Quarters Battle) tactics, using smoke grenades to cover their entry before executing coordinated breach-and-clear maneuvers. AI soldiers replicate real-world military room-clearing procedures, swiftly securing indoor areas and neutralizing threats, ensuring that no hiding spot remains truly safe. 🚪💥

To counter such highly intelligent AI, players must go beyond simple gunfights. Stealth, deception, and environmental awareness become key survival strategies. Observing enemy movement patterns and utilizing shadows, terrain, and tactical gear can help players locate escape routes or set up strategic ambushes.
