Happy 200th Anniversary of the birth of the modern railway!
27th September 2025 marks 200 years since the opening of the Stockton and Darlington Railway in 1825. On this momentous day, George Stephenson’s ‘improved locomotive engine’, ‘Locomotion No. 1’, completed its inaugural journey of 21 miles from Shildon colliery to Stockton, via Darlington.
