This is a deep dive into purity, but on steroids. It's not that the harms of Christian evangelical purity culture aren't awful - they are, and are more far-reaching than we know. But this feels different, with Nate saying the quiet parts REAL loud. Saying that boundaries within marriage are immoral or that intimacy requiring consent is sinful is WILD, and I don't even know what to do with this one.
You'll have to forgive me for my lack of knowledge on what to say towards the end of this video, and for making poor comparisons to other manifestations of purity culture.. it's all awful, but most people don't phrase it in such an awful, blatant way, which makes me deeply concerned about what could be going on behind closed doors.
I'm saying all of this pre-publishing, not in an edit. I STRUGGLED with this one... I won't be posting another on Nate and Sutton any time soon, because frankly, it feels very heavy and dark watching their content. I occasionally get agitated with content I disagree with naturally, but something with Nate and Sutton's content feels much more concerning to me. I'd love to hear your thoughts on this one, because I can't seem to gather mine.
